Your Highness (2011) Synopsis :
Thadeous and Fabious (Danny McBride and James Franco) are two sons of King Tallious (Charles Dance). They are both warriors, but Fabious is dashing and skilled and Thadeous is lazy and ineffectual with both an inferiority complex and poor track record in quest taking. While celebrating his latest victory over the evil sorcerer who has been ravaging Tallious's kingdom, Leezar (Justin Theroux), Fabious introduces the virgin Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel) he freed from a tower and wishes to marry her. Though he is made the best man, Thadeous skips the wedding after overhearing Fabious's Elite Knights, led by Boremont (Damian Lewis), talk about him negatively. But the wedding is then crashed by Leezar, revealing himself to be the one who placed Belladona in the tower before spiriting her away. Story: Throughout history, tales of chivalry have burnished the legends of brave, handsome knights who rescue fair damsels, slay dragons and conquer evil. But behind many a hero is a good-for-nothing younger brother trying just to stay out of the way of those dragons, evil and trouble in general. As two princes on a daring mission to save their land, they must rescue the heir apparent's fiance before their kingdom is destroyed. Your Highness is a goofy movie from the Pineapple Express guys. Myhusband and I loved this movie, we didn't stop laughing, and neitherdid anyone else in the theater. Danny McBride is hilarious. JamesFranco and Zooey Deschanel have an infectious sweetness that makes youwant to run home and proclaim your undying love! Natalie Portman gavean amazing performance as always and it was nice to see her in acomedic role. Of course Your Highness is no Black Swan, but if you'relooking for a good laid back, feel good movie to keep you rolling, thisis the one for you, I have NO idea why this movie is being bashed, itmust be from people with no sense of humor or spirit of fun! Go see ittoday,you won't regret it!!!

I have just seen this at a preview screening in London.
I'm not actually a fan of low brow humour but I found myself laughingand chuckling throughout this filthy mouthed, very gory, medieval swordand sorcery fantasy comedy. Its mainly because the cast is very likablewith its main leads resonating off each other in this pool of sillinesswhich makes the film highly entertaining. While James Franco and DannyMcBride provides the laughter and brotherly banter, Natalie Portmanstrides in with stunning gravitas as a deceptive sexy swashbucklingheroine.
The storyline is a simple action adventure journey to save a damsel indistress from a warlord. But this not a naked gun style comedy, rathera humorous homage to classic fantasy movies such as Dark Crystal, Conanthe Barbarian, Princess Bride etc. What's surprising is that theadventure is rather genuine and exciting with a huge dose of specialeffects that a comedy shouldn't really be allowed to have. I believethe film was given a normal comedy level budget but they certainly seemto have made clever use of it with some impressive special effects.
Yes there is much sexual jokes and innuendos and a heavy reliance onuncharacteristic medieval expletive adjectives to force a laugh but thecharm of the characters makes them get away with it.
Having said all of the above, there were clearly some pacing issues andmissed opportunities for this to be an even funnier and smarter moviebut as it is, it offers plenty of entertainment, fun and laughs for aFriday/Saturday evening at the cinema.

I watched this on DVD last night, shamefully because of what i hadheard around the time of its cinema release. Well that taught me alesson.
The only accountable reason i can arrive at for all the negativefeedback i heard from critics and the public is that i feel they wereexpecting something a little more Holy Grail, because of the settingand the English accents and instead i felt this is more BlazingSaddles, very un-pc, whilst gently goosing (oo-er) its chosen genre.
It is immature and crude, but the laughs were consistent enough, its acomedy notion which would usually have a B grade budget, but hassomehow been made with an A grade budget and for me that was part ofits charm. Its like the slackers broke into the set of Lord of theRings and mucked about all weekend and managed to film it.
Maybe i did the right thing in retrospect, sometimes its better towatch something after the dust has settled, just watch this cold andi'll bet you'd enjoy it. In years to come i think this film will havequite a loyal following, across a certain demographic, including me.
